On April 16, London Breed, the Mayor of San Francisco, California, continued her visit in China. Mayor Breed met with Guangzhou government officials and took a tour in Yongqing Fang, a tourist attraction featuring traditional Lingnan cultures in Guangzhou.

Mayor Breed pointed out that Guangzhou and San Francisca have a long-standing friendship as about 30% of Chinese residents of San Francisco have some connection to Guangzhou.

She stated that her visit in Guangzhou focuses on business development, tourism, and improvement of environment.

As the 135th Canton Fair has started since April 15, Mayor Breed indicated that some delegation members have already planned to participate in the Canton Fair. She hopes to continue to foster business relationships by the Canton Fair.

Speaking of new possibilities in terms of technology collaboration between San Francisco and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Mayor Breed noted the potential collaboration in terms of sustainable development.

“We've been talking about important gains in the environment. San Francisco is anticipated to be greenhouse gas free in 2040. How we learn about new technologies, electric vehicles, electric charging stations, infrastructure, and how we move those things forward, those are some of the things that we had a conversation about. My hope is that as we start to talk in the coming months, we can figure out exactly how we are going to make commitments for both of our cities because of what that could mean for our economic prosperity,” said Mayor Breed.

In addition, she was excited to visit Yongqing Fang, a tourist attraction featuring traditional Lingnan cultures in Guangzhou, which is also the home of Bruce Lee's father. Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco at a Chinese hospital. “San Francisco is such a multicultural city. Bruce Lee was a real bridge builder between the Chinese and the African American community in San Francisco, where I grew up. It's such an important relationship for our city,” she added.
